Location, Location, Location via Search Engine Marketing
Just like in the real estate market (in spite of how lousy the market right now) LOCATION is paramount in successfully marketing and making sales – online.
Your prospective customers get to your website via 3 primary means:
- Search engines – and yes, whether you like it or not, Google typically has at least 2/3 of the market share of searches done worldwide for any specific keyword relevant to your business.
- Your links (or banner images, videos, audios etc.) on other sites (partners, business directories, affiliates, etc.) and on emails.
- Offline marketing (brochures, print ads, Yellow pages, TV, word-of-mouth, etc ) that pitches your site url.
All 3 are important, but Web Location is primarily related to #1 and Search Engine Optimization (SEO) AKA Search Engine Marketing (SEM): How often do you go beyond the first page after you type in a search phrase into Google or other search engine? Some people do, but the percentage is incredibly low; basically, you’re invisible online if you’re off the first page of a Google search – in the “organic” and/or “pay-per-chick.” Rankings. First page locations on Google, Yahoo, MSN, etc. are critical -- otherwise the great web content you’ve developed will go to waste.
Note: Having highly findable locations on other key sites (#2) is also a huge benefit, and email marketing works great as well, if executed well.
Field of Dreams is a dream, online. ”Build “it” and they will NOT come—not in 2008.
Once upon a time, even just a few years ago, you could slap up a so-so business website, tell a few people you know, and folks would magically find you online. That can still happen now for those who people are searching for your exact name…IF you have a very unique brand(s), company, service or product name(s). BUT if you’re not really a “brand,” most prospects won’t find you online by typing in your brand name(s). They don’t even know you yet, and so they’ll type into Google or their favorite search engine a word (or more likely words) that describes something they want that you offer.
Today’s challenge is that are just too many billion pages out there now, and everyone is trying to get on the first page of Google (for keywords/search terms relevant to your products/services). Getting the LOCATION you need to succeed online…now takes a lot of know-how. The good news, though, is that most of folks you compete against (big and small)...still haven’t a clue.
Oh, PS, if someone promises you an immediate Page One Google rankings for all of the keywords that you really need (and will make a difference)…without doing this via Google Adwords…is a charlatan.
Warning! Warning!
Essential: The Delicate Intertwining of Web Content & Search Engine Optimization
Here’s the thing. Ignore either one, Content or SEO, at your own peril. Work on one and not the other in a vacuum – and well, you’ll be very disappointed with the results. They are intertwined, always. Yes, your buying audience is the most important, but they also have to find you – or what’s the point? That’s THE central focus of Ranseen Marketing: to get you the best online marketing results possible by focusing on BOTH Web Content AND Web Location via SEO and other online marketing.
You are always writing web copy that will attract your your key customer groups, BUT you are also writing for an audience that’s not even animate: search engines (which, over time, will get better and better at “knowing” what humans want online):
- The right words and location of those words on your web pages are essential if you ever want to get even near the 1st page of any search.
- You’ll toss a ton of money away on Pay-Per-Click unless your online ad copy using Google Adwords, etc. is stellar and you’re bidding for the right keywords. The opportunity to beat your competition, though, is immense.
- Also, the way you present your links (and banners, etc) on other sites, as well as your ongoing email content (that needs to incorporate links), cannot be ignored.
