This position includes reference service (including some evenings and weekends), library instruction and collection development for assigned academic departments, and library instruction in the core curriculum. Other responsibilities include developing, implementing, and promoting programs and events that enhance the role of the library on campus, participation on state-wide consortial groups, college service, and collaborative work with public service librarians on instruction, resources development, and assessment.
An ALA-accredited MLS (completed or near completion) is required. Other minimum qualifications include a commitment to undergraduate library services and familiarity with information literacy outcomes and assessment. Previous library instruction experience and outreach experience are desirable.
This position will be available July 1, 2009.
Reference, Instruction, and Emerging Technologies Librarian
This position includes reference service (including some evenings and weekends), library instruction and collection development for assigned academic departments, and library instruction in the core curriculum. Other responsibilities include developing and implementing digital projects that enhance the effectiveness of both the library’s instructional initiatives and the delivery of library services and resources to the college community, participation on state-wide consortial groups, college service, and collaborative work with librarians, technology staff, and faculty.
An ALA-accredited MLS (completed or near completion) is required. Other minimum qualifications include a commitment to undergraduate library services and knowledge of a range of instructional technology including course management systems, the web, online user guides, podcasting, etc. Previous library instruction experience is desirable.
This position is available pending funding.
Librarians at SMCM have faculty status and rank with a 12-month appointment including 22 vacation days. Minimum starting salary for each position is $45,000 which includes an excellent benefits package.
