I grew up in a small East Coast town in the south called Wilmington, NC. We're famous for hurricanes, Dawson's Creek, and Michael Jordan. I started playing music in middle school (my parents forced me to play the clarinet, but I really wanted to play the drums!). I used to do a bunch of acting in middle school too...I was in about 15 films, mostly made for tv movies, before I hit high school. I got started playing the guitar when I was about 15 years old after I blew out my knee my first day of high school wrestling practice my sophomore year. Not a great way to start the season, but since I had plenty of time because my leg was in a straight cast for 6 months, I started writing songs. I began surfing earlier that summer, so naturally, images of life at the ocean seeped their way into my songs. Not long after I started playing, me and some friends started writing and recording together.
Having spent much of the past few years living from a suitcase, I've used the experiences I've had in the places I've lived to fuel my creativity. From my trips abroad, to the tiny New York City apartments I've called home, I've tried to experience as much as I could in hopes of writing the best music possible. My friend Wes once told me that the best songs come from just living life; the more you live, the more you have to write about. So that's what I'm doing, living and writing. I hope the songs of my heart help you to connect with yours in a much deeper way. If you like what you hear, please share the the music with your friends :0)
The plan is to have another album done and released this year, so stay tuned for that. Many of the demos on my myspace will be on it! I also look forward to coming to your town and playing... Thanks for listening!

"Mary"
This song only has 3 chords in it... E A and Fm
(verse 1)
She's got everything she wants,
She's got everything she needs,
Got a four door sports car, house of her dreams
Got white picket fences, give her diamond rings
But she don't need them, she don't need them
Her head's stuck in a pipe dream
She gets everything she sees
Claims shop-a-holic as a disease
Thinks that plastic or paper, both gonna save her
Money can't buy her way out of danger
Mary's gonna find out one day, that all these things will fade away
(Chorus)
Mary, you're very confused
Got a lot of issues you need to go through
Got a one track mind, when you take your time
You'll find everything you need your cash can't buy
You're gonna find, that everything's gonna be alright
(Verse 2)
She's got all her money can buy
But she's got nothing left inside
She tries to find God sipping on a bottle
A little marijuana gets a bit harder
Try to put it down, it'll come back stronger
Mary's gonna find out one day, that all these things are gonna change...

Your pockets are fully stocked
With cigarettes and lollipops
Your favorite songs aren't on the radio
You disregard the debutantes
Who scoff at you in nonchalance
About the way you want to wear your clothes
Am G/B C D/F
Don't read the magazines
Filled with rehabbed beauty queens
Cause they don't have a thing to do with you
(Chorus)

Thrift Store Gypsy, Always iffy about everything mainstream
It never was your scene
Thrift Store Gypsy, I wish I could have your bravery inside of me
To go against society
I see you on the L train
Nose buried in Hemingway
And I wonder where you like to spend your time
The Jesus hanging round your neck
Your hair so perfect in such a mess
Suggests there's more to you than meets the eye
You've been told what's really best
Climb corporate ladders with broken steps
But you know that there's more to life than this
Here are the tabs and chords for 'My Best' -the tab is from memory, so let me know if it isn't right. I ususally tune my guitar down a whole step to play this song, but it may have been in standard tuning or down just a half step. Have fun :0)
F C Am G/B, F C G
The radio's playing our favorite song
The one's we used to along
But your silence is telling me that something's wrong
Not sure what you're gonna say
Doesn't matter anyway
We've been putting off this talk now for days
There were too many stars to align
Took too much to make it right
But you can't say I never tried
F C G (3x), F C Am G/B, F G
I gave you my best
Cause its all that I had
I guess its too much
To ask for that back
I gave you my best
Cause I needed all that you had
I gave you my heart
Now please give it back
Sometime you pray for the skies to clear
But the clouds just need to shed some tears
So pardon me while I take a little time
And I'm not surprised your eyes are dry
While on love's cross I'm crucified
All I wanted was for you to try
(Chorus)
Am C F G (2x) Am Dm G E, Am C G
If you say that you tried, you just lied to yourself...
(Chorus)
"Take It Slow" OK, this is probably the simplest song I ever wrote, but hey, simple worked for the Beatles... Capo 1st Fret The Verse and Chorus are both:E B A B The Bridge is:Cm A B
(Verse)
Baby, would you tell me some of those secets you keep locked inside
Cause lately i been that I'd like to share you some of mine
We'll take it slow girl, I want to take all day and lay with you sittin' under the sun
Casue lately I've been thinking of you and me and what we could become
(Chorus)
We'll put it on the line and cut the end of the rope
You know things are always better when you take it slow
We'll say a little prayer that it works out right
And spend a couple hours talking into the night
We'll take it slow girl
We'l take it slow girl
We'll take it slow girl
We'll take it slow girl
(Verse)
Baby, don't you know you're my favorite
I want to take you away and just maybe, spend a couple of nights
Watching as the sunset falls from the sky
Lazy afternoons with a guarentee
That nothing's ever coming inbetween you and me
(Chorus)
(Bridge)
And on & on & on & on & on we go
All along this love will always be enough
On & on & on & on & on we go on, we go on

Morning time took us away,
Ocean tides bring our escape,
Sands of the hour glass beneath our toes
There's no one here just you and me,
We've set our sails for the open seas,
Hands of the clocks are clapping to and fro
Well you and me we fit like peas
Without a pod that we don't need
There's no place in the world I'd rather be
So cast your nets let your anchor drop,
This place looks good as any spot,
Our playground will be the open seas

I can't go on without
I can't go on without
I can't go on without You baby
I can't go on without
I can't go on without
I can't go on without
I can't go on without You
Watch the sunset as it waves goodbye bouncing on a big blue plane
The stars walk their way to the sky
When tomorrow comes, we'll do it again
What good is life if it ain't with friends?
Looks like we'll be up all night
In the rocking chairs on the patios, with cold sweet teas we're growing old
Oh Summer time is a state of mind
And beauty is having nothing to do
But sit and look at the art of you
I couldn't think of a better time, cause I know, I know
I can't go on without
I can't go on without
I can't go on without You baby
I can't go on without
I can't go on without
I can't go on without
I can't go on without You

"New York"
(Verse 1)
The skyline shines like Christmas lights
Like fireworks stuck in the sky
In New York, New York
The street's alive with the passing cars
Underneath all the man made stars
In New York, New York
This I swear if you can make it here
Anywhere becomes austere
Then may I see, if what they say is true...
(Chorus)
So long and farewell
To the land I have dwelled
Tomorrow's song I'll sing in a different place
So long and goodbye
To the city that scrapes the sky
Don't forget my name
When I return again to New York
(Verse 2)
I remember my first nights
In Mark's apartment on the East Side
And our talks of girls and God and all our dreams
The Coronado on the holidays
The Compound and the L train
And 5 nights a week down at 414
This I swear if you can make it here
Anywhere becomes austere
Then may I see, if what they say is true
(Chorus)
(Bridge)
New York (6x)
So long and farewell
To the hands I have held
I'll always hold your heart inside of me
So long and goodbye
Until the next
Don't forget to write
And please dry your eyes
I'll stop in and say hi
The next time I'm in New York...
All alone by the phone waiting on you to call me
All night I cry I ain’t got you beside me
Even though, this hurts deep down inside
I know its for the best I’m not picking up the phone
Chorus
Its too late to turn back now
You said what you said tonight when I was walking out
When tomorrow comes you know I won’t be found
Someday you’re gonna sit down and regret you ever
let the words come out of your mouth
But today, you’re gonna have to think about
How you let a good man walk out
Going on on my own with you gone won’t be easy
But staying here shedding more tears ain’t too appealing
Even though you said this love would not grow
Cold, this bridge we built is up in smoke
Lately Life's been feeling all too wrong
Patience tried to stay, but she's far gone away
As far as the eye can see, my sorrow a lonely sea
I swim till the west meets the east
Though I Stumble and I fall and crash like the waves on the sea
I pray oh God don't abandon me
Lately life ain't felt like it should
Sorrow tried stay, but she's no good
Anger my only friend, I couldn't let you in again
Patience come take your place in me
Though I Stumble and I fall and crash like the waves on the sea
I pray oh God don't abandon me
Rick, you have a very nice sound I really enjoyed "perfect man". i loved the guitar in "take it slow" Do you do any of the instruments yourself? Maybe guitar? You have a lot of talent, but clearly you have already figured that out :p Keep playing. :) Samantha Lee
kathy is doing ok, we call over there alot and check up on her if she needs any help. she might have to go for surgery and get pins put in her arm. but how have you been? by the looks of it, alot of hard work got you far! im happy for you.
If the swim race had set rules..Michael Phelps would win..no doubt..but if the race were a street swim race then Chuck Norris would totally spank Phelps in the race!
