The Personal Impact of a ReConstruct Project

Summer staff group shot

What a great year 2007 has been for ReConstruct. We give God all the glory for the way He has equipped this ministry and our participants to assist low-income homeowners with home repairs. As you read the facts, figures, and accomplishments of ReConstruct in the past year you will note a recovery from the downturn in 2006. But the “statistics” alone can’t show the real growth in our ministry.

Charts and graphs can’t fully reflect the impact a ReConstruct project has in the personal lives of the people who serve and are served. There is no way to put a number on the emotional and spiritual change of a homeowner when their roof is repaired at no cost to them. In the same way we can’t “measure” the spiritual growth of a student or adult as they serve that homeowner. The only way this is done is through stories and testimonies. We share here only a few of the many stories of those changed lives.

ReConstruct Participant Grows Up

Each year ReConstruct employs college students to work as construction supervisors and lodging/media coordinators for our weekly projects. For the second year we have employed past participants as summer staffers. Jan Peacock shares how God has used ReConstruct to make a spiritual impact on her life. She is evidence that ReConstruct has instilled a desire for a lifetime of mission service in the process of her Christian spiritual growth. (more)

ReConstruct Golf Challenge 2007

Kevin Jenks shares his experience as one of the participants in the first annual ReConstruct Golf Challenge. The goal of any fund raising event should be to raise awareness and then raise money. The Golf Challenge did that by educating the golfers about the ministry of ReConstruct and developing their interest to raise money by securing sponsorships. The result was not only a great golf outing but also significant dollars raised and additional contributors for ReConstruct. (more)

From the many homeowners who have said, “I don’t know what I’d have done if ReConstruct had not helped me,” to the volunteer participant that serves them, these stories and testimonies are reminders of the importance of our mission, to equip and prepare students and adults for a lifetime of mission service.

As we look to the future and the areas in which ReConstruct will serve, our experience and ability as an organization will also be used to assist others who want to start a home repair ministry in their city. We consider this our way to disciple, mentor, and build the Kingdom.

God has blessed us through the individuals, foundations and corporations that have supported ReConstruct. To you, we say “thank you” for the many ways you have contributed to our ministry. To our new friends, we ask that you consider joining us through your financial support as we renew hope for low-income homeowners and change the lives of those that serve.
