ReConstruct Participant Grows Up
As a participant, ReConstruct was truly a life changing experience. It wasn’t my first mission trip, but it was the first that I didn’t want to end. On past trips, by the end of the week, I was more than ready to head home to my own bed and finally get some rest. My first summer at ReConstruct was different.
I remember being jealous of the staff members because they got to spend the whole summer in Nashville. They didn’t get to see just one happy homeowner; they witnessed dozens of homes transformed over the course of a several months.
Over the next couple of summers I returned to ReConstruct for a week at a time to roof a house during the day and hear from amazing speakers in the evening. The summer staff was amazing those summers, they genuinely took an interest in their campers and were willing to help us any way they could, so that we could better serve our homeowners.
Two years ago I had the opportunity to serve with ReConstruct as a staff member. I never could have imagined what an awesome experience it would be, even if it did mean sleeping on an air mattress for 6 weeks.
To see God working in the participants and homeowners day after day is something I truly cherish. This past summer on staff was a completely unique experience from the one before it, and I can confidently say it was my favorite summer so far in my 20 short years.
I’ve been involved with ReConstruct to some degree for the last 5 years; that’s a quarter of my life. It has deepened my faith, drawn me closer to Him, and I can not, nor do I want to conceive of my life without ReConstruct.
