In Memory of Kjell Tovander, an Inspiration to us All.
1,638 athletes departed from Veteran’s Park at 9:00 a.m. on Sunday November 16, 2008 for the 13.1 mile Route 66 Half Marathon. We are deeply saddened that only 1,637 returned home that day. Kjell Tovander embodied the spirit of the Route 66 Marathon. Through running, he became stronger, healthier and more confident. We are all heartbroken by his loss, and pledge to keep his memory alive as we run toward the future.
