Press Release- Sept. 24, 2008 Maybe you've noticed some bus shelter signs up again around Petaluma with this message: Wake Up America! VOTE! For a change This is the message Peaceroots Alliance is putting out at 5 locations in Petaluma including one at Jungle Vibes' store front window. There is also one up in Novato and Rohnert Park.
These are the same signs we used from 2003-2004, but the message is still important and relevant today, more then ever. Vote! Everyone needs their voice heard by voting. For a change, to those who say 'forget it', or 'it doesn't count'. It does. For a change.
Yes, we think this country needs a change. Peaceroots Alliance has been putting up signs around the country for some years now with its http://www.peacesigns.org/ site. As a Public Service Announcement for a non profit organization, we help other peace groups put up their messages. From Portland, Oregon to Lansing, Michigan, groups like us who started up after 9-11 wanted to do something towards peace.
PeaceRoots has gone on to help work with children making quilts with its More Than Warmth project, teaching non-violence and giving young people a chance to give to others. Having had over 2,000 children creating quilt squares into quilts and sending them to poverty and war-torn areas in the world.
Another project, Farms Not Arms, is giving a voice to farmers on the financial impact of wars to our land and food economy and the Farmer Veteran Coalition, is a project in the works to bring returning veterans of war on to farms as a solution for peace; a healing for vets and a way to teach them a usable and needed skill for our communities at home.
