HR professionals everywhere are under increased pressure to quantify their work through metrics. But the activities that are easy to measure don't always provide a full picture of the value created through human capital in the organization. In this interactive session we will look at how to develop meaningful metrics for your people and your activities. We'll also look at ways to structure your organization's incentives and other programs to provide appropriate accountability.
Critical for:
- HR leaders who need to understand how to measure the impact of HR in the eyes of both the firm and its employees
Dr. Boudreau and Ms. Erickson will explore two sides of accountability. One is the
accountability of HR to the organization, such as ROI on talent. The other is the
accountability of the organization to its workers (i.e., what do workers expect of their
organizations? How is this changing? The best talent is being more selective and more
demanding in everything from flexible arrangements to social responsibility.
John Boudreau, co-author of the forthcoming book, Beyond HR: The New Science of Human Capital, will explore how the evolution of other decision sciences, like finance, can radically transform the HR function into one that exists to create competitive advantage. This new lens shifts the focus from the quality of HR services to the quality of talent decisions - requiring fresh approaches and metrics. He will draw on examples from cutting edge examples from companies such as Corning, Disney, and Federal Express.
Tamara Erickson, co-author of the book Workforce Crisis, will address how the changes in workforce demographics are dramatically changing worker expectations of the employer. This "flip side" of accountability will examine the gaps between what employers and employees are each looking for - and what can be done about it. HR sits with the critical role of translator between the two and must understand how to bridge this gap.

Tamara J. Erickson
President
The Concours Institute
Tamara Erickson, co-author of the book Workforce Crisis, is going to address how the
changes in workforce demographics - including the aging population, shortages of young
workers, and shifting expectations for "work" - are dramatically reshaping the workforce.
How are these changes re-shaping the role of Human Resources? Worker engagement
levels, left unchecked, will continue to decline. Understanding more about the role of
work in each employee's life is a powerful starting point - individuals may want very
different things. They respond best, and are most engaged, when the management
approaches, compensation, and core corporate values are closely aligned with their
preferences. World-class companies bring all the pieces together through "Signature
Experiences."
