Kiplinger Best Value

Its outstanding academic quality and affordable price tag have once again put St. Mary’s in Kiplinger Personal Finance magazine’s top 100 “best values in public colleges for the 2008-2009 school year.” Kiplinger’s newly published rankings place St. Mary's at number two in Maryland for best value. The College has the third highest four-year graduation rate in the nation at 75 percent, ranking behind only the College of William and Mary and the University of Virginia. It is ranked number one in Maryland for its six-year graduation rate of 83 percent. See full press release.

College Adopts Integrated Pest ManagementIPM birdhouse
The College installed purple martin houses and bat houses as part of an integrated pest management system. Certified arborist Carl Dyson helped with the installation of the bat houses and with Kevin Mercer, supervisor of grounds, explained the steps involved for pesticide-free pest management. With the help of interested students like Travis Lear, the College is adopting integrated pest management (IPM) in two controlled areas on campus.  

Arc Distinguished Research Award for GliddenLaraine Glidden Wins ARC Award
Professor of psychology Laraine Glidden, known for her groundbreaking research on raising children with developmental disabilities, is the recipient of the Arc of the United States’ 2008 Distinguished Research Award. Glidden was presented the award during the Arc’s National Convention in Albuquerque, New Mexico on Nov. 7. Her research demonstrates that both adoptive and birth families are, by and large, extremely resilient and find great rewards in meeting the challenges of raising children with special needs.
