Events at Castle Ward Demesne

Come along and join the fun at Castle Ward from July to August 10 when the National Trust will host Children’s Summer Day Camps.
Kids will enjoy a fantastic learning experience as they storm Audley’s Castle, explore along the seashore, enjoy forest hikes and experience theatre, orienteering and art.
The day camps will be an exciting mix of fun packed adventure for 6 to 10 year olds, with the opportunity to get imaginative, get involved and above all have fun fun fun! Kids will experience fun and adventure from specially designed programmes such as Take a Hike, Peek at the Past, Give it a Go and Let’s Make it. |
All programmes will be within the National Trust's stunning Castle Ward Demesne and will run between 8.30am and 4.30pm Monday to Friday. All activities will be supervised by qualified staff. Weekly charges apply and booking is essential.
Also at Castle Ward, the National Trust welcomes everyone to the July Jazz Series in the exotic Sunken Gardens. Sponsored by The Yellow Door, Portadown & Belfast, the Jazz will take place every Sunday afternoon throughout July from Martello and Jackie Flavelle Jazz bands.
Whether you are a jazz enthusiast or just looking for a relaxing day out, Castle Ward is a great opportunity for an introduction to jazz and a real treat for those already hooked. Everyone is welcome to this popular event, so bring a rug or folding chairs, unpack your picnic, kick back and enjoy the great atmosphere. The breathtaking gardens are in full bloom and walking a woodland trail through this intriguing and spectacular demesne will finish your day perfectly.
The jazz begins at 3.00pm and normal admission fees apply (members admitted free).
Or why not enjoy a day to the new monthly Speciality Market at Castle Ward. The fun continues on Saturday 7 and Sunday 8 July with a superb collection of top quality food from local farmers and producers. All traders are hand picked and they offer a wide variety of high quality produce including sumptuous foodstuffs, home-made delicacies, unique eye catching goods and vibrant arts and crafts. You can bring your own picnic basket and fill it with great cheeses, olives, breads, home made cookies and locally made chutneys washed down with gourmet coffees. There is also an array of ready to eat food at the market including organic ice creams, crepes, gourmet burgers, Mexican and Caribbean hot delicacies.
In addition to all of the above there are a fine array of local artists – including the work of candlemakers, unusual soaps and jewellers who all create bespoke items perfect for small gifts for all occasions.

Summer Nights at King John's Castle

From July 20th-22nd, King John’s Castle, Limerick will play host to a myriad of cultural, theatrical and musical performances.
Designed to cater for all different cultural and musical tastes, this event promises to create an electrifying yet enchanting atmosphere in the unique surrounds of King John’s Castle this July.
On Friday 20th July, Chapterhouse Theatre Company will be performing an outdoor performance of William Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Nights Dream in the magical setting of the Castle Courtyard.
This beautifully dressed Elizabethan production will feature a large cast and an enchanting musical score set to Shakespeare’s wonderful verse.

Join us under the stars at King John’s Castle for what promises to be an unforgettable evening of theatre. Patrons are invited to come along, with picnics and blankets in tow, relax, unwind and enthrall themselves in this theatrical spectacle brought to life in truly magical and unusual setting of King John’s Castle.
On Sunday 22nd July, legendary 80’s rockers, Diamond Head, take the stage at King John’s Castle, with an open air performance of their 80’s hits including Am I Evil?, Lighting to the Nations, This Planet is Me and Mine all Mine, along with many more. Whilst the show will be a rock concert, the emphasis will be on heavier rock and aspects of the Metallica-type metal genre. With music ranging from doom laden Sabbath type grind to more mercurial sounds of Led Zeppelin, Diamond Head performance should not be missed by any true heavy metal fan.
