December 2008 Postal RecordCarrier Corps members recognized for role in election:A list of the NALC members who delivered at least 10 hours of volunteer work for the November elections appears in the December issue of the Postal Record magazine. “We all should say ‘thank you’ to these brothers and sisters for the important victories their great effort helped accomplish,” President Bill Young said. Note that the list is primarily Carrier Corps members who signed in at Labor 2008 events, and many thousands more NALC members volunteered during the campaign. Postal Record

Agreements reached on route adjustments, contracting out: MOUs implement expedited process to adjust routes, extend the moratorium on new Contract Delivery Service for the remainder of the National Agreement, and assign new deliveries to career carriers instead of contractors. Customer Connect : DHL's decision to abandon U.S. express delivery service creates a real opportunity for letter carriers participating in Customer Connect. NALC members are encouraged to seek out DHL customers and educate them on the good value of USPS delivery. DHL will continue to make U.S. deliveries of international packages—many of which are carried the last mile by letter carriers.
Inauguration information: NALC members seeking tickets for inauguration events should contact their home state House and Senate members, who are provided a limited number of tickets. There is no reason for members to contact NALC Headquarters, the office of the National President, or the Legislative and Political Affairs Department about inaugural event tickets. NALC has not been provided any tickets and does not expect to receive any for distribution.
