C.J. CHENIER & THE RED HOT LOUISIANA BAND
Annual Mardi Gras Celebration!
Creole Dishes Available!
We're always excited to welcome C.J. Chenier back to the Café for another lively time. C.J. has been carrying on the zydeco legacy of his father, the late Clifton Chenier, King of Zydeco. C.J. has been dubbed "the crown prince of Zydeco." He's a commanding personality, a strong singer, and a great accordionist. He's been maintaining the tradition of his late father's group, The Red Hot Louisiana Band. Over the years he has added some new members of his own, while remaining faithful to Clifton's grand tradition.
C.J. joined his father's band on sax in 1978 at age 20. Four years later Clifton appointed him band leader, and a year afterward began to teach him accordion. He's been full-time leader since Clifton's death in 1987. The band has been touring the country constantly, keeping dancers jumping and the tradition alive. Look for "Too Much Fun" and "The Big Squeeze" on Alligator. In 1997, C.J. was nominated for a WC Handy award. Come out and see what everybody's talking about!
