Odetta
1930-2008
We received word today of the passing of our long-time friend – the legendary Odetta. She was a strong voice of the civil rights movement and an integral part of American Folk Music for over 50 years. She delighted us here at the Towne Crier with her volcanic voice for more than three decades. We considered her folk music royalty. Sadly, she had planned to sing at the inauguration of president Barack Obama. We, here at the Towne Crier, like thousands of others, will miss her and feel fortunate to have known her.
