“Can I Climb Aboard as a Stow-Away!”
e understand your desire to be a teenager again so that you can participate. And, you still can! Through sponsorship programming, Sisters Under Sail works closely with individual families, communities and youth organizations to support bright teenage girls who lack financial opportunity. Large scale success is experienced when we can partner with organizations that can help to identify the high-potential teens and match them with sponsorship dollars. Many times, deserving families simply find us. Either way, we’ve made headlines and changed lives, but we could do so much more for this under-represented population.

Hello,
I have a daughter that I think would be a great candidate for this program. However, it is a little out of our budget range. Do you offer any scholarships or partial scholarships to girls that otherwise cannot afford something like this?
Thanks for any info you may have for me.
Wendy from Oregon
Sisters Under Sail, a nonprofit 501(c)(3) Corporation, has put over 150 teenage girls at the helm in the past three sold out summers. Many of these teenagers came aboard via youth organizations such as Girl Scouts of USA and Boys and Girls Club of America. Others, similar to Wendy’s daughter, have joined us through the generous support of community and corporate partners as well as individual donors.
Generous sponsors share our goal for this affinity group - to broaden their perspective of their world. The program clearly builds confidence and furthers their belief in the value of sisters working together, but it also helps them to see outside the box and reach deep within themselves to see their own potential, courage and tenacity.
Answer this….
- Does your community need a valuable leadership program for your area teenage girls?
- Are in a position to help us identify high-potential teenagers that need a boost in life?
- Would you like to become an individual or corporate sponsor for girls who are already make good choices, but lack the financial ability to climb aboard for one of our Sisters Under Sail programs?
Because of people just like you, Sisters Under Sail has put aboard 90 deserving teenage girls via sponsorship dollars!
In summer 2006, Sisters Under Sail partnered with the Girl Scouts of Lake Erie Council based in Cleveland, Ohio. It took their CEO, Cheryl Goggans, ten minutes into a telephone conversation to realize that our Sisters program added value and supported the Girl Scout mission. She wanted to give her Girl Scouts the opportunity to jump aboard. The Council identified six racially diverse girls ages 15 – 17 to participate. Ms. Goggans’ commented, “We want to encourage girls to take some level of risk and to become more comfortable with water. We know in some minority groups, that’s a significant issue.” The Girl Scouts sponsored 6 inner-city teens that sailed with us from Cleveland to Bay City, Michigan and they swam in Lake Huron every opportunity they had!
Community Program

“The Sisters Under Sail program was an excellent way to build confidence and self-esteem in young teenage girls. In addition, many of these youth may not have ever had the opportunity to go sailing because of economic constraints; however through this event, together, we were able to bring them a world class sailing experience aboard a luxury tall ship.”

BeamPinesInc. is a long-standing supporter of Sisters Under Sail and advocate of women’s leadership development. Through their generous support, and the financial assistance of other sponsors, we've put aboard a few individual girls. We want to be able to do more and give these girls the confidence and positive self-image that every young girl deserves in life.
"I think that the Sisters Under Sail program was a life-changing experience for the girls that had the opportunity. I only hope more of our girls have the chance to participate in this wonderful program."
