Medical Education Journal Club

Mission Statement: Faculty in the School of Medicine who teach medical students want to provide the very best possible learning experience for them. Research in medical education and other related fields is creating new understandings about how learning occurs as well as what teaching strategies are effective based on these new understandings. Exposure to information about these new understandings in addition to discussion of them in the OTLM Journal Club will help School of Medicine faculty reflect on their own teaching, compare it with what is being reported and discussed and make changes that they feel will improve their teaching practice.

Objectives: After participating in an OTLM Journal Club session, participants should be able to:

• discuss recent advances in teaching and learning in medicine
• identify and discuss recently identified opportunities for improvement in teaching medical students
• examine and revise as appropriate personal approaches to teaching
• discuss anticipated learning outcomes for changed approaches for teaching medical students
