Conducive Environment Created to Fight TB/HIV Co-Epidemics: Ministry |

Addis Ababa,12 November 2008:– The Ministry of Health (MoH) confirmed that conducive environment had been created through establishing a coordinated body in order to fight TB/HIV co-epidemics.Opening the 14th Core Group Meeting of the TB/HIV Working Group of the STOP TB Partnership here yesterday, State Minister of Health, Dr Kebede Worku, said the National TB/HIV Advisory Body was established and subsequent guidelines were developed to tackle the problem. The ministry remained committed in fighting TB/HIV co-epidemics with a view to decrease morbidity, mortality and improving quality of life of those affected, the state minister said. |

Addis Ababa, Oct 20, 2008:-The Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) and the Woodrow Wilson Center's Africa Program hosted Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Minister of Health for Ethiopia. Dr. Ghebreyesus reflected on the legacy of U.S.-Ethiopian partnerships in health, particularly under PEPFAR, and Ethiopia's recent major health policy innovations. Addis Ababa, 21 October 2008:- The White House Summit on International Development: Sustaining the New Era was held on 21 October 2008 at the Roland Regan Building and the International Trade Centre. The Summit coordinated in conjunction with USAID, the Office of the Global AIDS Coordinator at the Department of State (OGAC), the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC), and the Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC) concentrated on the US Administration’s core principles in regards to international development. Participants of the Summit including US Secretary of State, Condoleezza Rice, the Liberian President Ms. Ellen J. Sirleaf, Artist Sir Bob Geldof, as well as other leaders from both the public and private sector deliberated on key development issues such as good governance, economic growth, results-based programme and accountability. In his remarks, President Bush said “during time of economic crisis, some maybe tempted to turn inward – focusing on our problems … [but] America must stay committed to international development for reasons that remain true regardless of the ebb and flow of the markets”. |
