after snoop . before bed

E! has announced the brand spankin' new show Party Monsters: Cabo. A sneek peak of the show is set to air on November 30th at 11:00 p.m. ET/PT (just after the season 2 premiere of Snoop Dogg's Father Hood - and yes, I feel silly just writing that). The concept is a competition that will see 9 event planners compete against one another to throw a fabulous shindig for Hollywood celebrities on the Mexican Riviera.

"Among the celebrities appearing on "Party Monsters: Cabo" will be P. Diddy, Carmen Electra, Brody Jenner and Lil Jon. Michele Merkin, meanwhile—who formerly hosted ABC's "The Next Best Thing"—will serve as the show's host, as well as a member of its judging panel, which also includes "in-house expert" Brian Worely and a weekly celebrity guest."
The winner will earn the title of "celebrity event planner" with the LG Villa Cabo resort. In typical reality-tv fashion, the losers are sure to be humiliated.

The show will air on December 12th at 10 p.m. ET/PT on E! channel.

these are a few . (8, to be exact) . of my favorite things

Aubrey Blankenship of Event Solutions interviewed me a few months back to ask how Etsy can make an impact in the events world. "Oooh, ooh - where do I begin...". I gushed about Etsy. It was embarrassing, really. I mean, Etsy has pretty much satiated my appetite for all things unique and handmade and brought the joy of late night shopping to the comfort of my home.

For my wedding, my birdcage veil and reception flower were made by myrakim, my ring bowls by palomasnest, and my bridesmaids clutches by janinekingdesign.

Since my big day I have been guiltily lurking on this site for...well...anything and everything. Here are just a few of my favorite 'eventy' things:

Cute as cute can be! Check out this adorable baby shower centerpieces by SugarPlumBabyBoutiqu is just $29!!

This shabby chic wreath by VictorianPetals is a mere $10!

Goodness me. Just look at this pretty sugar and creamer set by justmare for $45.

Good enough to eat, these decadent chocolate cake SOAPS by morganstreet are a mouth watering $5.50.

100% recycled kraft gift tags by EarnstandThistle - $4.25 for a set of 5.

Gorgeous paper fancy (worn on a lapel, a purse, a bouquet) by lalalaurie for $25.

Felt acorn ribbons - think napkin holders, present wrapping, wine bottle bows - by truLuxe. Set of 2 is $8.25.

Chalk cloth centerpiece by modernjune for just $7. Wouldn't this be great on a buffet table to describe meal selections?

not another networking site...

Just when I thought I had no more spare time between updating my Facebook profile and managing my LinkedIn contacts, along comes EventPeeps.com. Created by Red 7 Media, EventPeeps is the social & professional network for anyone involved in producing live events.

The site offers the ability:

  • To speak with other events professionals
  • Create blog posts
  • Upload event photos and videos
  • Search for jobs
  • Post events

So far, I'm impressed. And I'm eager to see how the site will grow and evolve over time and with more involvement by event professionals. Be sure to join and connect with me.

Pssst - thank you, Ruth.

wedded bliss . and, joining the mile high club

Events in the Sky, which I blogged about over a year ago, has extended their jaw-dropping, vertigo-inducing, bile-rising experience to...yes, you guess it, weddings. If a 'normal' wedding isn't enough of a thrill ride for you, you can now exchange your vows 50m in the air. My recommendation? Don't do the bouquet toss.

And if this still makes you go: 'ho hum', why not finish off your vows with a little leap off the platform.

How many of us have been to a fundraising event and watched as a live or silent auction whipped guests into a frenzy of bidding? This works out wonderfully for the fundraising organization, but what about the company who donated the auction item? Renaissance Time Square has taken revenue-raising and fund-raising to a whole new level...

ebayers were invited to participate in the chance to host the world's most spectacular New Year's Eve party from their own exclusive perch overlooking the NYC's Time Square celebration. For the winning bidder, RTS agreed to donate 25% of the highest bid to the Amazonas Sustainable Foundation. A win/win, no?

Now although the auction ended without any bids, it does raise the question as to whether this idea could evolve to other event experiences being sold over ebay. What could be next?...
